But 1 indelible impression of leadership—the quiet, servant, humble type of leadership—has often powered me. When I assume about the form of leader I aspire to be, I think of just one picture.

I attended significant faculty in central Indiana, just outside the house of Indianapolis, in a town that experienced just opened a model-new substantial faculty constructing. In fact, I was part of one particular of the initial classes to graduate from the new setting up, and the neighborhood took fantastic delight in the sparkling auditorium and the significant basketball arena. But by midway by means of my sophomore yr, the novelty of the building had worn off. It experienced grow to be just usual.

My principal was on his fingers and knees—in a suit and tie—with a pair of scissors, reducing the threads that experienced pulled up from the school’s carpet. That—humble, selfless, detail-oriented, community-focused—is my impression of management.
